  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts

  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We've also made the website text as simple as possible to understand. The site is also designed to be compatible with:

  • basic operating system screen magnifiers, such as ZoomText 11
  • speech recognition software, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Ambiguous links (AAA)

There were links on some pages that may be difficult to understand for screen reader users browsing out of context.

Some links will be ambiguous for some screen reader users that browse out of context by using the tab key or by isolating a list of the links into one single list.

A hidden span with additional information has been implemented, however, the span actually sits outside of the link.

The issue is due to be fixed within the next 6 months.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons: non-compliances - this means the content in question is in scope of the regulations, but there's an accessibility problem which may prove challenging for users of the service.

  • Error handling - Some of the error handling did not follow the GOV.UK Design System recommendations.
  • Error validation - Focus was not managed once error validation has been triggered.
  • Skip links - The error link did not perform as expected.
  • Page title - Part of the page title was duplicated.
  • Cookie banner - The cookie banner did not follow GOV.UK Design System recommendations.
  • Buttons - The button element was marked up as a link.
  • Numeric keypad - The standard text input keypad may be time-consuming for mobile users.
